2021 was an incredible hair for keeping it natural, revisiting past eras, and following the hottest influencers. Now that 2022 has arrived, we’re looking to the UK for some of the emerging trends and it seems to be shaping up to be a year with innovative, big movements when it comes to hair. 

Although we’re still seeing curtain bangs, ‘70s waves, the mullet, and the iconic shag, we’re also seeing some new hairstyles, haircutting techniques, and the French gloss, which is the 2022 spin on the ombre.

Mixie. The mixie is a blend between a pixie haircut and a short version of the mullet. What begins as a pixie, lends itself to long edges with a much softer, airy look. It’s a great hairstyle for natural texture so it’s a great style to consider whether you have straight, curly, or wavy hair. 

The Mullet Revised. The mullet of today is a more modern, subtle shape without going the full ‘80s mullet. Top off this modern cut with a layered fringe on top to frame the eyes and to bring it all into one cohesive look. 

The Wolf Cut. If you want a plethora of layers and tons of movement, ask your Bella Bronze stylist about this wolf cut. It’s a mix of vintage shag and a modern mullet. We love this cut if you have wavy or curly hair, or by creating beachy waves on straighter hair. 

The Octopus. Don’t let the name intimidate you. This octopus haircut is all over Pinterest right now and it’s actually super flattering. First appearing in Japan and Korea, it consists of shorter layers on top with longer layers underneath. The hair is longer around the eyes than a mullet, making it a statement haircut. As the layers grow, you will need to trim it regularly to cut off the longer length layers underneath to keep the shape, but add some waves or curls to the bottom, let it flip up slightly, and it will resemble the tentacles of an octopus. Add some fun fantasy colors or bold highlights and you’ve got a style ready for the runway. 

Low Layers. If you’ve done the short, heavily-textured shag, it’s out for 2022. This season it’s all about medium to long-length styles that need less maintenance, are slightly polished in texture, and appear soft and wispy. Reminiscent of the ‘70s, these low layers are soft and romantic with incredible movement. 

The Bi-Bob. Bold lines and amazing silhouettes are becoming a hot trend this year. The new 2022 version of the classic bob accentuates the mid-level area of the cheekbones and eyes. Combining the short bob with a heavy fringe still has shape, is slightly longer in the back, and has heavier lines that encourage your features to stand out. 

Spherical Shapes. We’re still embracing natural texture, but instead of fringes and curtain bangs, you’re going to begin seeing more cuts that open up the face, create gorgeous silhouettes, and are often worn off the shoulder.   

The Rachel. Remember the iconic from Rachel in Friends? This ‘90s cut is back but for a longer and softer look. The layers are still framed around the face, but with longer and less choppy layers. Add some ashy blonde balayage highlights to shimmer in the sun and add attention to the layers. 

Money Piece Hair. Money pieces are back in a big way. We’re seeing dark, jet-black hair with icy blonde money pieces to really accentuate the face. Add some waves or a vibrant fantasy color for your money piece and you’ve got a trendy, one-of-a-kind look.
